Wow. I seriously just had the BEST WEEKEND EVER! And this is not like one of those "best thing ever"s that i always talk about. i'm completely serious. and if this weekend doesn't stay in my memory as one of the most amazing times in my life, well then i'll be having a pretty damn awesome life ahead of me. anyway, i'll start at the beginning and try not to ramble on too much...
everything on friday was normal until about 5pm, when the dm chairs gathered for the kick off dinner. we got set up, and talked and then started collecting money as the dancers and moralers arrived. normal cash turn ins: $150, $200, even $500, and a couple in the $1000-$2000 range. and then, one dancer came up to me and handed me 3 checks: $500, $10,000, and $18,000. That's right, one dancer raised $28,500; more than half of last year's total (which was $50,000). damn. and then, instead of going upstairs for food and speakers like the rest of the staff, i stayed and helped mariss (our finance chair), sort and the money and checks, before our advisors came and they went upstairs to the business office to do some counting. by the time i got up to the dinner, it was just ending, and i grabbed some food, and we discussed our course of action, and headed over to the gym. we stayed there until about 12:30am, making posters, hanging encouragement signs, making dancer bags, and transporting food and prizer from one building to another for the event.
then, i went home, but i was up until 4am getting stuff ready for DM. i was up again at 7:30am, and got everything together, and headed over the the gym again in the pouring rain. luckily, marissa saw me and i jumped into her car. the rest of the morning was continued set up. i ran out at 2pm to work at tsai for a while, then to tap rehearsal for about 45 minutes then back to the gym. unfortunately, for the night, i was the operations chair as well, which wasn't originally supposed to be my job (see, we never actually GOT an operations chair, so it was thrown on my shoulders in the last month). so i was working quite a bit, but i was able to get inside for the really imporant stuff: the first line dance at 7pm, bu on tap's performance, the halfway point, and of course the check presentation at 7am. which was fabulous: $80,000!!! i had no idea! i mean, we were hoping for $75k, and weren't sure we would make it. and i can't give marissa enough credit for keeping the sercret. it was soooooooooo fabulous. and we were all crying. we did the linedance one more time, and dm was over. i can't believe we pulled it off. wow.
and unfortunately, after a few posed pictures with our amazing check, i had to run out. i ran home, showered, and ran to the kenmore stop to meet yael (who was a dancer at dm), and we headed to the bus station. we got on the 9am bus to nyc, immediately grabbed a 2 seater each, sprawled out, and went to sleep. we got into ny around 1, and headed to the auditorium, and found kalaniot. we got changed, did some makeup, and rehearsed a bit, then it was time to close the ny festival. and what a way to close a festival! we looked absolutely amazing. and considering that yael and i were exhausted, polly was on viocodin, and alexis was stressing out, we kicked some major ass. the crowd went crazy. then we packed up our stuff, and got on our charter bus along with shelhevet and b'yachad and headed back to boston. polly, nathan, alexis, and i were all in one row on the bus, which normally would have made for quite the interesting trip. however, within 15 minutes, polly and i were completely out. but that wasn't before passing yankees stadium, and it was opening night. i blew my boys some kisses, and told them that it was time to shape up and not let the travesty happen again. then i fell asleep. apparantly, polly and i were were nuzzling in our sleep in our cramped bus seat, i'm not really sure. but i do think we were spooning as some point. ;)
so we got into boston around 11:30pm, and i got home around midnight. and i checked the score. yankees 9, red sox 2. that's the way to do it, boys! keep it up! and the first home run of the entire 2005 major league season was my boy matsai-san. get 'em, godzilla!!!
i honestly don't think i could be happier! :-D
i can't stop smiling.
